Myofunctional Therapy for Children and Adults in Central Kentucky

Retraining the muscles of the face, mouth, and tongue to support better breathing, sleep, and function.

Orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) uses guided exercises and habit training to improve how the tongue, lips, and jaw move and rest. It can help people of all ages breathe more easily through the nose, swallow and chew more efficiently, and support healthy sleep. At Kentucky Therapy Solutions, we work with both children and adults. With locations in Lexington and Georgetown, we serve families across Central Kentucky.

What we treat

  • Mouth breathing: Helping clients build the habit of breathing through the nose, with the lips closed and the tongue resting in the right place.
  • Sleep-disordered breathing and sleep apnea: Therapy that works alongside your sleep physician, ENT, or dentist to support airway function and sleep.
  • Snoring: Exercises to strengthen the muscles of the tongue, throat, and mouth.
  • Tongue thrust and swallowing patterns: Retraining the way the tongue moves when swallowing and at rest.
  • Tethered oral tissues: Therapy before and after tongue or lip tie release, to help the mouth move and function well.
  • Orthodontic support: Helping clients maintain results from braces and expanders, and addressing habits that can affect the teeth and bite BEFORE expansion or orthodontia.
  • Thumb, finger, and pacifier habits: Gentle, shame-free support to help children move on from sucking habits, and to address how they affect the mouth, teeth, and bite.
  • Jaw tension and pain: Support for clients with jaw clenching or tightness, including TMJ-related concerns
  • Speech sound differences related to tongue and lip function: For example, certain lisps and difficulties with specific sounds.
